Latvia have been on a disappointing run of form, losing 11 of their last 16 matches. Their upcoming opponents, Macedonia, have a perfect record against them, winning all three of their previous meetings.
A closer look at Latvia’s recent games shows that seven out of their last eight matches have seen under 2.5 goals. This does not bode well for their chances against Macedonia.
In an article titled “Luckless Latvia likely to lose again,” a football journalist highlighted the challenges faced by the Latvian team. Despite their low ranking in League C, Latvia managed to secure a win against Faroe Islands. However, the upcoming match against North Macedonia, the strongest team in their group, is expected to be tough for the minnows.
The journalist pointed out that Latvia’s recent form, with just three wins in their last 16 games, does not inspire confidence. Draws against weaker teams like Cyprus and Liechtenstein raise doubts about Latvia’s ability to get a positive result on Thursday.
On the other hand, North Macedonia has been enjoying success in recent years. Impressive draws against Italy and England in 2023 showcase their quality. A convincing 2-0 win over Armenia, who had beaten Latvia 4-1 in a previous match, further demonstrates Macedonia’s strength.
The journalist emphasized the difference in quality between the two teams, with North Macedonia boasting Champions League-level players like Elif Elmas and Bojan Miovski. With the majority of Latvia’s squad playing domestically, they are unlikely to match Macedonia’s skill level.
Predicting a fourth consecutive win for North Macedonia against Latvia, the journalist backed the Lions to come out on top in Riga against the 11 Wolves.
